Murphy Oil has discovered oil at the Bubale-1X exploration well in Block CI-709, about 64 kilometers offshore Côte d’Ivoire.
The company drilled the Bubale-1X well to a total depth of 6,263 meters in water depths of 2,376 meters. The well encountered 30 meters of net oil pay across two reservoirs, with initial assessments pointing to high-quality light oil.
“Early results at Bubale reinforce the prospectivity of our Côte d’Ivoire acreage,” said Eric Hambly, President and Chief Executive Officer of Murphy Oil. “We are pleased with the results so far, which highlight the value of our disciplined exploration approach. Our immediate focus is to move ahead with evaluation plans and determine the full potential of the discovery.”
Bubale-1X marks the third and final well in Murphy Oil’s current three-well exploration campaign in Côte d’Ivoire. The company now plans to begin the next phase of evaluation and expects to drill another well in the second half of 2026 to assess the extent of the discovery.
Murphy CI-709 Oil Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Murphy Oil Corporation and operator of Block CI-709, spudded the Bubale-1X well in late February. Murphy Oil holds a 90% working interest in the block, while Société Nationale d’Opérations Pétrolières de la Côte d’Ivoire (PETROCI) holds the remaining 10%.
