Equinor has signed an agreement with TotalEnergies to acquire a 30% interest in Block 16/21 offshore Angola. TotalEnergies currently holds full ownership of the block and remains the operator. The deal will only be finalized after receiving approval from the relevant authorities.
The block is not yet producing. It lies south of ExxonMobil-operated Block 15 and north of TotalEnergies-operated Block 17, which is the country’s largest producing block.
The agreement was signed by Martin Deffontaines, CEO of TotalEnergies in Angola, and Ane Aubert, Equinor’s country manager in Angola. It was witnessed by Hélder Iombo, Director of Negotiations; Raúl Madaleno, Block Manager; and Neusa Cardoso, Director of Communications at the Angolan National Oil, Gas, and Biofuels Agency (ANPG).
The agreement reflects both companies’ intention to explore and develop new oil and gas resources in Angola, supporting the country’s production targets for the sector.
