Chevron has started producing oil and gas from the South N’dola field in offshore Angola’s Block 0.
The project features a new production platform linked to the Mafumeira facility, where output from South N’dola is processed before being sent to an export terminal, the company said.
Chevron explained that using available capacity in existing infrastructure allowed the company to develop the field efficiently and at a lower cost.
The company did not share production volumes for South N’dola. It noted thatBlock 0, where the field is located in Area B, contributes about 12 percent of Angola’s daily energy output.
Chevron said the project created more than 800 local jobs during construction and is now supplying oil and gas to Angolan processing plants. Chevron operates Block 0 with a 39.2 percent interest.
Brent Gros, president of Chevron Offshore, said achieving first oil at South N’dola reflects the company’s focus on increasing output from its established offshore assets in Angola.
Chevron currently operates two offshore areas in Angola through Cabinda Gulf Oil Company: Block 0 and Block 14.
According to Chevron, Block 0 includes 21 fields, with Lifua A being the first to enter development.
Late last year, Chevron also brought a Block 0 gas project online to supply the Angola LNG plant and domestic power facilities.
In the first phase, the Sanha Lean Gas Connection project is delivering an extra 80 million cubic feet per day of gas to Angola LNG. Previously, the facility received about 300 million cubic feet per day through the Congo River Crossing pipeline.
Chevron said the next phase will involve commissioning a booster compression module, which will add 220 million cubic feet per day and raise the pipeline’s total capacity to 600 million cubic feet per day.
CABGOC holds a 36.4 percent stake in Angola LNG. Angola’s state oil company owns 22.8 percent, Azule Energy holds 27.2 percent, and TotalEnergies owns 13.6 percent.
