Zimbabwe is entering a new phase in its energy sector with the confirmation of its first commercial gas discovery in the Cabora Bassa basin. The development positions the country to join the ranks of emerging natural gas producers in Africa.

Invictus Energy, the company behind the discovery, has received the green light to begin pilot production. Part of this phase includes plans to supply gas to the Eureka Gold Mine, aiming to generate early revenue and support local electricity generation.

As part of its expansion strategy, the company has identified the Musuma-1 well for its next major drilling campaign. This new well, outside the original discovery zone, is estimated to hold substantial reserves of gas and condensate, further strengthening Zimbabwe’s presence in the regional upstream sector.

Industry leaders have hailed the Cabora Bassa project as a model for how natural resource development can drive economic progress and support cleaner energy solutions.
