Geoscience specialist Viridien has signed a major multi-client collaboration agreement with Morocco’s Office National des Hydrocarbures et des Mines (ONHYM), the national agency responsible for hydrocarbon and mineral resource development.
The agreement establishes a framework for Viridien and ONHYM to provide integrated subsurface data and analysis across Morocco’s extensive and largely underexplored offshore and onshore sedimentary basins.
Through this partnership, both organizations aim to improve subsurface evaluation, strengthen technical expertise, and promote knowledge exchange. The collaboration also seeks to attract investment and support hydrocarbon exploration across Morocco.
ONHYM CEO Amina Benkhadra said the partnership reflects the agency’s commitment to innovation and international cooperation. She noted that combining ONHYM’s regional expertise with Viridien’s advanced technologies would improve understanding of Morocco’s subsurface resources, attract investment, and create more exploration opportunities.
Dechun Lin, Head of Earth Data at Viridien, said the agreement marks an important step in the company’s expansion across Africa. He added that combining Viridien’s seismic imaging and data science capabilities with ONHYM’s regional knowledge would help advance hydrocarbon exploration in Morocco.
Morocco continues to rely heavily on imported energy and is expanding gas exploration and infrastructure to diversify its energy supply and meet growing demand from power generation and industry. Several onshore and offshore basins have already shown commercial gas potential.
