Tanzania and Uganda have taken another step towards developing the Tanga Regional Energy Hub after their joint technical committee handed over the Chongoleani project site to Worley Consulting Group for preliminary feasibility studies.
The studies will assess the site’s soil conditions, environmental requirements, and preliminary designs for infrastructure to receive, store, and transport refined petroleum products.
The project forms part of the two countries’ broader energy partnership and aims to build on the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) by expanding petroleum storage, refining, logistics, and distribution capacity in the region.
The planned hub could strengthen fuel security, create jobs, attract investment, and position Tanga as a major oil and gas hub in East Africa.
