Talesun and the South African producer ARTsolar collaborated on the manufacturing plant. It was constructed in order to comply with the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy’s (DMRE) Risk Mitigation IPP Procurement standards (RMIPPP). The specific program is a 2-GW procurement round, which saw the announcement in March 2021 of eight preferred bids totaling 1,845 MW.

According to Talesun, the plant’s activities will act as both a “catalyst and paradigm for the quality-focused development of not only the local PV industry but also of the entire local economy.” The Chinese company noted that its collaboration with ARTsolar is focused on supplying South Africa and the larger US and European markets with high-performance PV modules.

Talesun’s annual production capacity currently stands at 16 GW for single-crystal PV cells and 20 GW for PV modules.
