Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited (SNEPCo), a subsidiary of Shell plc, along with Sunlink Energies and Resources Limited, has reached a final investment decision on the HI gas project located offshore Nigeria.
Once operational, the project will supply gas to Nigeria LNG (NLNG), where Shell holds an interest, supporting the production and export of liquefied natural gas to international markets. The project is expected to begin production before the decade ends.
Shell’s upstream president, Peter Costello, emphasized that this decision reinforces Shell’s long-term commitment to Nigeria’s energy landscape, particularly in deepwater and integrated gas development. He explained that the project would strengthen Shell’s global gas portfolio while contributing to Nigeria’s efforts to enhance its role in the global LNG space.
By expanding feedstock to NLNG through the Train 7 development, the HI project supports Shell’s ambition to steadily grow its global LNG output in the coming years. It will also strengthen NLNG’s contribution to Nigeria’s economy by creating employment opportunities during both construction and operational phases.
The HI field, discovered decades ago, sits offshore at a moderate water depth and is estimated to contain significant recoverable resources, marking it as a vital addition to Nigeria’s expanding gas infrastructure.
