Rhino Resources announced its third consecutive offshore discovery in Namibia’s Block 2914A, located in the Orange Basin under Petroleum Exploration License 85.

The Volans-1X well, drilled by the semisub Deepsea Mira on July 31, encountered 26 m of net pay in rich gas condensate reservoirs with strong petrophysical properties and no water contact.

The well reached a depth of 4,497.5 m TVDSS on August 30 after successfully hitting the Upper Cretaceous target.

Lab tests on two reservoir samples, taken from the top and base of the interval, showed a high condensate-to-gas ratio above 140 and a liquid density of about 40° API gravity.

During wireline logging, the team collected multiple hydrocarbon samples and sidewall cores, with further lab studies ongoing on fluids, cores, and cuttings.

Rhino CEO Travis Smithard said the high-yield gas condensate discovery in excellent reservoirs strengthens their subsurface understanding.

He added that the result opens a new play fairway in the license, showing different reservoirs and fluid types compared to the Sagittarius-1X and Capricornus-1X finds. Rhino, with partners Azule Energy, NAMCOR, and Korres, will now assess the results and integrate them into blockwide prospectivity studies.
