ReconAfrica has reported new exploration results from its assets in Namibia, Angola, and Gabon, with the latest developments focused on natural gas potential in Namibia, petroleum system indicators in Angola, and seismic work offshore Gabon.
In Namibia, flow-test samples from the Kavango West 1X (KW1X) well indicate the presence of thermogenic natural gas with liquid potential. The samples from the Huttenberg and Elandshoek formations show maturity ranging from the late oil window to the early gas window.
ReconAfrica has resumed work on the KW1X well after completing maintenance on the Jarvie-1 rig. The company has submitted the required regulatory approvals and plans to begin horizontal drilling in October, subject to approval and the arrival of remaining equipment.
The planned horizontal section could extend up to 1,000 meters and will target natural fractures and porous zones within the Kavango structure. ReconAfrica plans to complete the well as an open-hole section and conduct flow testing immediately after completion to measure gas deliverability, liquid yields, and formation pressure.
The company said the horizontal flow test will also provide additional samples to assess the composition of liquids in the gas stream and determine potential liquid yields.
In Angola, preliminary results from soil sampling carried out in May and June indicate a working petroleum system with thermogenic hydrocarbons and potential liquid content. Surface microseeps also suggest that hydrocarbons may be migrating from deeper accumulations. ReconAfrica is considering a 2D seismic program in 2027 to further define the geological structure.
Offshore Gabon, ReconAfrica is continuing the reprocessing of 3D seismic data at the Ngulu concession. The work uses advanced seismic processing techniques, including full waveform inversion, to improve the imaging of potential oil-bearing reservoirs and other exploration targets.
The Gabon seismic reprocessing is expected to be completed before the end of the year. ReconAfrica also plans to prepare a resource report and select locations for appraisal wells around the Loba oil discovery, with well planning already underway.
