ReconAfrica and its partners NAMCOR and BW Energy are moving ahead with downhole production testing at the Kavango West 1X (KW1X) well in Namibia, with testing scheduled to start before the end of May.

The company said the required equipment and field service teams have arrived at the site. SLB and Halliburton will manage the technical field operations during the testing program.

According to ReconAfrica, the production test will assess six targeted zones across around 420 m of hydrocarbon-bearing intervals within the Kavango discovery.

Before starting the test program, the operator will carry out a cement bond log to confirm the integrity of the casing and cement. A third-party contractor is also completing the transport and storage permits needed for the downhole testing operations.

The company said testing one zone may take up to 10 days, while the full multi-zone production testing campaign is expected to run for about 60 days. ReconAfrica expects initial test results between mid and late July.

ReconAfrica also said it is continuing appraisal drilling activities across the wider Kavango discovery area. The company is currently working on site selection and permitting for the next appraisal well.

The company added that it is conducting all operations in line with Namibia’s regulatory and permitting requirements.
