Petralon Energy has started production from DI-3, its second consecutive well on the Dawes Island field in the eastern onshore Niger Delta Basin. The company brought the well onstream on March 14, 2026, and says it has added about 2,800 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) to production. With DI-3 now operating, the field’s total production capacity has risen to approximately 4,800 BOPD.
DI-3 follows the successful start-up of DI-2, which began producing on October 18, 2025. The two wells form part of a continuous drilling campaign on a field that was not producing when Petralon acquired it in 2021.
The company reports that it has exported more than 350,000 barrels of crude oil from the field through the Bonny Oil and Gas Terminal, located about 30 kilometers away. Petralon also states that it completed the DI-3 project without any lost-time incidents, reflecting its focus on health, safety, and environmental performance.
Dawes Island covers around 46 square kilometers and is located roughly 15 kilometers from Port Harcourt, a major commercial hub in eastern Nigeria. According to the company, the field contains an estimated 17.6 million barrels of recoverable oil.
Petralon 54, a subsidiary of Petralon Energy, operates the asset and holds a 100% working interest in the field following its acquisition in 2021.
Ahonsi Unuigbe, Founder and chief executive officer of Petralon Energy, said the progress at Dawes Island reflects the company’s belief that Nigerian firms can successfully acquire, develop, and operate energy assets. He noted that while the company could have paused after bringing DI-2 onstream, the team chose to continue drilling, leading to the delivery of DI-3. Unuigbe also credited the achievement to the support of host communities, regulators, and partners, adding that the field still holds significant potential for future development.
