Petralon Energy is an African exploration and production company that acquires, develops, finances, and operates oil and gas assets.

Through its subsidiary, Petralon 54, the company holds a 100% working interest in the Dawes Island Field in the Eastern Niger Delta.

In less than six months, Petralon 54 has increased production at Dawes Island through the recently completed DI-3 well. The well started production on 14 March 2026 and has added an average of about 2,800 barrels of oil per day (bopd), taking the field’s combined production to approximately 4,800 bopd.

DI-2 came onstream in October 2025, with DI-3 following its performance as part of the company’s continued drilling program. The two wells have supported continued development of a field that was not producing when Petralon acquired it in 2021. So far, the company has exported more than 350,000 barrels of oil from Dawes Island through the Bonny Oil and Gas Terminal, located about 30km from the field. DI-3 also started production without any lost-time incidents, reflecting the company’s focus on health, safety, and environmental standards.

Dawes Island sits about 15 km from Port Harcourt in the Eastern Niger Delta. The field covers approximately 46 sq km and has an estimated 17.6 million barrels of recoverable oil.

Petralon Energy founder and CEO Ahonsi Unuigbe said the company’s progress at Dawes Island demonstrates the ability of Nigerian companies to acquire, develop, and operate oil and gas assets. He said the company chose to continue drilling after DI-2 rather than pause the program, with DI-3 becoming the result of that decision. He also highlighted the company’s collaboration with host communities, regulators, and partners in developing the field.

With DI-3 now producing, Petralon Energy has moved another step forward in the development of Dawes Island. The company plans to increase production, expand its position as an indigenous upstream operator, and continue developing the field’s oil resources.
