The Federal Government has restated its commitment to maintaining a steady gas supply from Nigeria to Togo, the Benin Republic, and Ghana to help tackle energy poverty and boost economic growth in the West African subregion.

Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, announced this during a meeting with the outgoing and incoming managing directors of the West African Gas Pipeline Company.

In a statement issued by his spokesman, Louis Ibah, Ekpo said the Tinubu administration remains firmly committed to supplying gas to neighboring countries, the Benin Republic, Togo, and Ghana, to fight energy poverty and drive economic prosperity.

As Chairman of the Committee of Ministers of the West African Gas Pipeline, Ekpo highlighted that President Bola Tinubu’s government has, over the past two years, made notable progress in advancing the gas sector by building infrastructure, cutting gas flaring, and increasing supply for both domestic use and export.

He stressed that President Tinubu aims to eliminate energy poverty in Nigeria, the West African subregion, and across Africa through targeted policies and projects. He said supplying gas to the Republic of Benin, Togo, and Ghana remains a top priority to power industries and reduce energy poverty as a foundation for economic growth in the subregion.

Ekpo thanked outgoing WAPCo Managing Director, Ms. Michelle Burkett, for her visionary leadership and tireless efforts in steering the company to success.

He assured the Federal Government’s full support to the new Managing Director, Mr. Abiodun Bodunrin, to help him succeed in his role.

Bodunrin, in his remarks, sought the minister’s support to fulfill his vision of boosting the company’s performance. He pledged to prioritize a reliable and uninterrupted gas supply from Nigeria for distribution to consumers across the region.
