Nigeria met OPEC’s 1.5 million bpd production target for the first time since the quota was set during the November 2023 ministerial meeting.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), OPEC’s monthly oil market report recorded a 54,000 bpd increase from December 2024, when production stood at 1.485 million bpd.

In December 2024, OPEC extended Nigeria’s production quota to 2026 after the country consistently fell short of the target for over a year.

OPEC gathered crude oil production data from two main sources—direct reports from Nigerian officials and secondary energy intelligence platforms.

The report confirmed that Nigeria maintained its position as Africa’s top oil producer, surpassing Algeria’s January output of 907,000 bpd.

Congo ranked as Africa’s third-largest oil producer in January, with a production output of 251,000 bpd.

According to secondary sources, OPEC-12 and the DoC produced an average of 40.62 million bpd in January 2025, marking a decline of 118,000 bpd from the previous month.
