ReconAfrica’s much-anticipated Kavango West-1X exploration well in onshore Namibia has now reached the reservoir zone.

The Toronto- and Frankfurt-listed company announced that no further updates will be shared until drilling reaches total depth.

CEO Brian Reinsborough said the final casing has been installed at about 2,300 meters, positioned just above the targeted Otavi reservoir.

He noted that drilling is now progressing through the Otavi carbonate reservoir—the main target within the Damara Fold Belt.

According to Reinsborough, the team plans to drill through a significant portion of the reservoir before conducting a full evaluation of the Otavi section.

The Kavango West-1X well is exploring a large structural trap in the Otavi formation, spanning roughly 20 kilometers in length and three kilometers in width.

Drilling moved faster than expected through the upper layers, prompting a short delay as the company awaited the arrival of casing materials for the final section.

ReconAfrica anticipates that the wildcat well will cut through about 1,500 meters of possible reservoir rock before reaching a total depth of 3,800 meters in the latter half of November.
