Kosmos Energy has announced the start of liquefied natural gas (LNG) production at the bp-operated Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) LNG project, located offshore Mauritania and Senegal.
On December 31, 2024, gas from GTA’s first phase began flowing from the wells to the floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel as part of the commissioning process. At the FPSO, the gas undergoes processing to remove condensate, water, and impurities before being transferred to the floating LNG vessel for liquefaction.
Gas has now reached the floating LNG vessel, where liquefaction has started. Kosmos will begin recognizing gas entitlement production from the project in its quarterly statements once the liquefaction process is underway.
Additionally, BP has notified the offtaker (BP Gas Marketing Ltd.) to dispatch an LNG carrier later this quarter for the first export. Kosmos will start recognizing revenue and generating cash flow once the first LNG cargo is lifted.
Chairman and CEO Andrew G. Inglis highlighted the significance of the milestone, emphasizing that the first LNG marks a key achievement for Kosmos, its GTA partners, and the governments of Mauritania and Senegal. He expressed anticipation for a rapid increase in LNG production and the first cargo lifting within the first quarter.
