Ghana has launched its $12 billion oil refinery project, which represents the first phase of a larger $60 billion integrated Petroleum Hub, with a groundbreaking ceremony in Jomoro.

This megaproject will complement Senegal’s New Oil Refinery Project, positioning West Africa as a major petroleum hub in Africa. The project includes building a 300,000-barrel-per-day refinery, a petrochemical plant, and extensive storage and port facilities.

The government is partnering with the TCP-UIC Consortium and plans for the hub to meet West Africa’s demand for refined products by 2036. The project is expected to create hundreds of thousands of jobs and boost the country’s GDP by 70% once fully completed. Ghana joins other African nations developing crude oil refineries to reduce reliance on imported refined products.
