BP has successfully completed drilling two new wells at the Raven gas field, the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources announced.

The Valaris DS-12 drilling vessel initiated operations in the second half of 2024.

Offshore installation work is now underway to link the wells to the production network, with production planned to start in February 2025, three months ahead of schedule due to an accelerated drilling and installation timeline.

On July 20, 2024, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi inspected the Valaris DS-12 vessel, accompanied by senior petroleum sector officials, to review drilling progress.

After completing drilling at the Raven field, the Valaris DS-12 has shifted to the King area, where BP is set to begin exploratory drilling for natural gas in the lower Miocene layer.

BP aims to reach the reservoir in the King area by the end of February 2025 and connect the well to existing infrastructure to boost production volumes and support Egypt’s GDP growth strategy.

This exploratory effort in the King area aligns with the Ministry’s broader goal to expand offshore drilling in the Mediterranean Sea.

Exploration activity across the Mediterranean is increasing, with Chevron drilling the Khanjar-1 well, ExxonMobil operating at the Nefertari-1 site, BP completing development work at Raven, and Eni resuming activities in the Zohr field earlier this month.
