The Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) have signed an agreement to strengthen cooperation and expand the role of Egyptian petroleum companies in Nigeria’s development projects. This builds on Egypt’s experience across African markets and the proven track record of Egyptian Projects Operation and Maintenance (EPROM) in running Nigeria’s refineries.

The agreement followed a visit by an NNPC delegation to Egypt, where its officials held talks with EGPC Chairman Salah Abdel Kerim.

Abdel Kerim highlighted Egypt’s ability to share its petroleum expertise with Nigeria, covering project design, implementation, management, and maintenance. He pointed to the capabilities of companies such as ENPPI, PETROJET, EPROM, and Sonker, and proposed organizing a joint workshop to explore knowledge exchange opportunities.

Led by Mumuni Dagazau, NNPC’s Executive Vice President for Downstream, the Nigerian delegation presented updates on ongoing projects, including EPROM’s work at the Kaduna, Port Harcourt, and Warri refineries.

Dagazau outlined areas for deeper collaboration, including training technical staff, transferring operational expertise, and enhancing refinery operations. He also stressed the potential to leverage Egyptian know-how in building natural gas fueling stations and supporting vehicle conversions to run on gas.

The discussions also examined ways to involve additional petroleum service providers such as Gastec and Car Gas in future projects.

NNPC continues to operate as Nigeria’s state oil company, with activities extending to the United Kingdom. Its portfolio includes exploration and production, gas development, refining, petrochemical distribution, engineering, refinery services, and commercial ventures.
