Mr. Sune Krogstrup, the Danish Ambassador to Nigeria, has expressed Denmark’s commitment to increase investment and provide support for Nigeria’s efforts in developing its renewable energy sector.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja, the ambassador pledged Denmark’s readiness to assist Nigeria’s green energy transition plan, highlighting Denmark’s position as a leading global player in the sector. He emphasized the urgency of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and stressed the need for collective efforts in achieving this goal.

The ambassador stated that Denmark possesses valuable expertise and green technology aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions, which can be shared with Nigeria. Denmark is at the forefront of developing and implementing innovative green technology to support a sustainable transition. Denmark has set ambitious targets to achieve climate neutrality by 2050, while Nigeria has also committed to ambitious emission reduction goals. The ambassador highlighted the importance of attracting investments and implementing new technologies to accelerate Nigeria’s green transition.

Furthermore, he underscored the necessity for Nigeria to take bold steps and demonstrate political will in implementing its Energy Transition Plan, aiming to achieve net-zero emissions by 2060. The plan, launched by former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo in August 2022, aims to drive economic growth, eradicate energy poverty, and ensure carbon neutrality by 2060.

The ambassador emphasized that the energy sector plays a pivotal role in achieving these objectives, and Nigeria must make significant efforts to reach its ambitious targets. Denmark, along with other international partners, stands ready to support Nigeria through investments, collaboration, and governmental cooperation.

The ambassador highlighted the importance of a sustainable energy transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources as a means to combat climate change and obtain cleaner energy. He assured Nigeria that Denmark would continue to deepen cooperation and collaborate with the country, particularly in areas of mutual interest.
