Cameroon’s Société nationale des hydrocarbures launched its 2025 to 2026 licensing round on August 1, 2025, and has now awarded five oil and gas blocks. Murphy West Africa secured four blocks in the Douala-Kribi-Campo basin, a key offshore and coastal area with existing infrastructure and prior discoveries. Octavia Energy Corporation obtained the Bolongo Exploration block in the Rio del Rey basin, a mature producing region near the Niger Delta that still holds undeveloped potential.
The government and SNH will now negotiate production sharing contracts with both companies. These agreements will define investment terms, cost recovery, and profit sharing and will determine how quickly exploration and appraisal activities move forward. Authorities expect these deals to restart exploration activity, attract fresh capital, and slow the decline in Cameroon’s oil output, which has been affected by aging fields and limited new discoveries in recent years.
