AXIAN Energy has begun constructing a solar and battery storage facility to advance Senegal’s renewable energy goals.

The company officially launched the NEA Kolda project on May 22 in the southern region of Kolda.

This hybrid plant will generate 60 megawatts of solar power and store 72 megawatt-hours of energy.

It is expected to deliver clean electricity to over 25,000 homes, reaching nearly 235,000 people.

AXIAN is framing the project within its commitment to an inclusive energy transition, focusing on tangible local impact.

The development secured over €105 million in funding, including €84 million in loans from key financial partners such as EAIF, FMO, and DEG.

AXIAN first introduced the initiative in November 2024 as West Africa’s largest solar-plus-storage complex.

In April 2025, Voltalia and Entech Smart Energies won the contract to lead engineering, procurement, and construction.

This project contributes to Senegal’s national energy plan, which seeks to achieve full electrification, up from the current rate of 84%.
