Angola has announced its willingness to help Namibia build its oil and gas industry by sharing its extensive experience.

Presidential spokesperson Alfredo Hengari stated that Angola is well-positioned to train Namibians in the oil and gas field.

He explained that Angola has already begun training Namibians and is fully prepared to support the development of Namibia’s emerging oil and gas sector.

This commitment follows President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah’s recent working visit to Angola, aimed at strengthening cooperation in agriculture, trade, and energy.

Her trip marked her first official international engagement since assuming office on 21 March.

Hengari noted that President Nandi-Ndaitwah used the visit to introduce herself to Angolan President João Lourenço and to engage with regional leadership.

She was joined by First Gentleman Denga Ndaitwah and International Relations and Trade Minister Selma Ashipala-Musavyi.

Both presidents agreed to deepen their long-standing ties by enhancing economic cooperation to address shared issues like youth unemployment.

Hengari said they were committed to targeted actions that would strengthen their economic partnership and tackle unemployment, especially among young people.

They identified agriculture, energy, tourism, oil and gas, logistics, infrastructure, and water cooperation as priority areas for this joint effort.

Ministers Ashipala-Musavyi and her Angolan counterpart will soon set a date for the inaugural session of the Bi-National Commission.

Hengari emphasized the need to reinforce legal and policy frameworks to fully implement the bilateral cooperation upgrade agreed upon in 2019.

Both leaders will jointly chair the upcoming joint commission on cooperation.

They also called for increased private sector investment and fast-tracked the Baynes Hydropower Plant project to stimulate development in both nations.

The plant aims to expand power and water infrastructure to northern Namibia and enable energy exports to neighboring countries.

They also discussed plans for a future rail link to improve trade and logistics between the two countries.
