Algeria is preparing to launch a partnership with China aimed at transforming its renewable energy sector. The upcoming investment deal is expected to spark a new era of domestic solar panel production, supporting the country’s vision of expanding clean energy capacity.
The Algerian Ministry of Industry announced on Monday that local conglomerate “Elec” will sign a cooperation agreement with Chinese solar leader “LONGi Green Energy Technology Co., Ltd.” later this week. The partnership will lead to the creation of a cutting-edge manufacturing plant focused on producing high-efficiency solar photovoltaic panels within Algeria.
This reflects Algeria’s ambition to secure energy independence and become a key player in the regional renewable energy market. Under President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s leadership, the government has ramped up efforts to draw in foreign investors and strengthen national involvement in critical industries like green technology.
Minister of Industry Sifi Grieb hosted LONGi CEO Mr. Jin James, who shared insights into the company’s technological strength and global success in solar energy. He also emphasized LONGi’s strong interest in supporting Algeria’s renewable energy goals.
During the meeting, Minister Grieb reiterated Algeria’s commitment to welcoming foreign investments that align with national priorities. He highlighted the government’s focus on projects that build solid industrial foundations and encourage local participation. “We fully support initiatives that create real industrial value and enhance local content—especially in areas vital to our energy and environmental future,” he stated.
