Following drilling, Vaalco Energy has announced the results of the ETBNM-3 well and moved the rig to a new slot on the SEENT platform to begin drilling the ETSEM-3PH pilot hole and development well.
Vaalco has placed the ETBNM-3 gas supply well in the crestal area of the North Tchibala structure on production. The well, which targets the Dentale D-15 reservoir, delivered better reservoir properties than expected, with strong porosity and permeability and more than 10 meters of net reservoir pay. The gas produced will meet the field’s operational, lifting, and power needs, reducing its reliance on expensive diesel.
Vaalco continues to assess the shallower pay intervals found in the D-9 and D-12 formations. Initial results indicate the presence of wet gas to light oil pay.
Vaalco plans to drill the ETSEM-3PH as a pilot hole and then develop a horizontal Gamba producer near the crest of the central fault block at SE Etame. The pilot well will test the original oil-water contact in the field and assess the potential of the underlying Dentale formation.
After drilling the pilot well, Vaalco plans to drill a horizontal development well with a 300-meter completion section in the Gamba sands.
Vaalco CEO George Maxwell said the company continues to advance its operations across its assets in Gabon. He said the new gas well will not directly increase production or sales, but it will reduce the cost of using diesel, improve field uptime and could support higher production from existing wells over time. He added that Vaalco remains focused on increasing production, reserves, and value for shareholders.
