The Caracal-1X well in Block CI-102 drilled to a total depth of 8,534 ft (2,601 m) before Murphy declared it a dry hole, and the company will use the findings to evaluate the remaining potential across its offshore acreage in Côte d’Ivoire.

Murphy Oil operates Block CI-102 with a 90% working interest, while Société Nationale d’Opérations Pétrolières de la Côte d’Ivoire holds the remaining 10% stake.

Even with the Caracal-1X result, Murphy plans to proceed with drilling the Bubale-1X well in Block CI-709, targeting a separate geological play from Civette-1X and Caracal-1X as the third well in its current exploration campaign in Côte d’Ivoire.

Murphy continues to focus on offshore exploration in West Africa while also managing its onshore assets in the Eagle Ford, Tupper Montney, and Kaybob Duvernay, alongside offshore holdings in the Gulf of Mexico and Canada.
