Sintana Energy Inc. announced an update on the second campaign for blocks 2813A and 2814B in Namibia’s Orange Basin.
A subsidiary of Galp Energia from Portugal operates the blocks under Petroleum Exploration License 83 (PEL 83).
Sintana holds a 49% indirect interest in Custos Energy (Pty) Ltd., which owns a 10% working interest in PEL 83.
NAMCOR, Namibia’s National Petroleum Company, holds a 10% working interest in the license.
Mopane-2A encountered hydrocarbons in two reservoirs: a gas-condensate column in AVO-3 with a thin net pay in the reservoir sweet spot and a light oil column in a smaller reservoir at AVO-4.
Both reservoirs revealed high-quality sands with excellent porosities and permeabilities, high pressures, and low fluid viscosity, along with minimal CO2 and no H2S. Like previous Mopane wells, they found no water contacts.
Galp and its partners are analysing and integrating the newly acquired data to deepen their understanding of the Mopane complex and continue assessing the commercial potential of the discoveries.
Robert Bose, Chief Executive Officer of Sintana, highlighted the success at Mopane, calling it a testament to the world-class scale and quality of the complex.
He expressed enthusiasm for further exploration and appraisal activities in the coming months, aiming to showcase the exceptional quality of their position in Namibia’s Orange Basin.
