In March 2024, Libya surpassed Nigeria to become the leading crude oil producer in Africa, as reported by the latest update from the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
Libya recorded 1.24 million barrels per day of crude oil production in March, an increase of 5.7 from 1.17 million barrels per day in February, while Nigeria recorded production of 1.23 million barrels per day in March compared to 1.32 million barrels per day in February.
