The Libyan government and Eni, an Italian multinational oil and gas company, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to drive the decarbonization of Libya’s energy sector.
Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh signed the MoU during a state visit to Italy, aiming to collaborate with Eni on research, technological development, and the establishment of business cases. The focus is on reducing emissions, including routine gas flaring, fugitive emissions, and venting, as well as decarbonizing challenging industries.
This partnership aims to address local and export gas demands, explore renewable energy prospects, and implement energy efficiency measures, enhancing both energy supply and sustainability in the region.
Eni, operating in Libya since 1959, is the country’s primary gas producer, accounting for 80% of its 1.6 billion standard cubic feet per day production capacity in 2022.
