A joint venture agreement was reached by the engineering firm John Cockerill of Belgium and a Moroccan energy firm to provide complete green hydrogen solutions in the North African nation.
According to a statement from the firm, the agreement also includes the construction of Africa’s first gigafactory for the production of alkaline electrolysers.
The statement didn’t disclose the name of the Moroccan partner or other financial or construction details, but said the high-powered alkaline electrolysers (5MW+/Stack Electrolyser) would enable green hydrogen production in Morocco at the best price.
The statement added that John Cockerill and its partner will work together to build a value chain for green hydrogen in the country of North Africa and that these advancements will support major local businesses in implementing a national energy ecosystem that is centered on renewable energy (photovoltaic and wind).
