AMEA Power has finalised the installation of solar modules at its 500-MW Abydos PV park in Kom Ombo, Aswan, Egypt, and successfully energised the 220-kV substation to connect the facility to the national grid.
The Dubai-based renewable energy developer revealed that one million solar modules have been mounted at the facility. The Abydos park is projected to generate approximately 1,500 GWh of electricity annually, enough to meet the power needs of over 256,000 homes. Additionally, the project is expected to offset around 783,300 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.
AMEA Power plans to sell the electricity generated at the park under power purchase agreements with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC). The construction of the PV farm was managed by the Abydos Solar Power Company (ASPC), a wholly owned subsidiary of AMEA Power, which will also own and operate the facility.
Earlier this summer, AMEA Power secured government approval to add 2,000 MW of renewable energy to Egypt’s power grid by mid-2025, with the Abydos project playing a key role in this initiative.
