As part of the ongoing restructuring of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, Adesua Dozie—ExxonMobil’s first female Regional General Counsel for Africa Upstream and former Vice Chairman of its Nigerian subsidiaries—has been appointed alongside three new directors.

The new board members include Rowland Ewubare, Group Chief Operating Officer; Mumuni Dagazau, Executive Vice President, Downstream; Sophia Mbakwe, Executive Vice President, Business Services; and Adesua Dozie, who assumes the role of Company Secretary and Chief Legal Officer.

Rowland Ewubare, as group chief operating officer, will oversee the day-to-day operations of NNPC, ensuring seamless execution of the company’s strategic objectives. Mumuni Dagazau, in his role as executive vice president, downstream, will be responsible for managing the downstream sector, including refining, distribution, and marketing.

Sophia Mbakwe, as executive vice president, business services, will lead the company’s support functions, ensuring efficient administrative and logistical operations.

Adesua Dozie, as company secretary & chief legal officer, will provide legal counsel and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

This latest move follows the recent reconstitution of the NNPC’s board and appointment of Bashir Ojulari, a former Shell top executive and executive vice president of Renaissance Africa Energy Company, signalling a determined effort to optimise operations and drive strategic growth within the nation’s energy sector.

These latest appointments follow President Bola Tinubu’s recent overhaul of the NNPC board, a strategic move aimed at boosting operational efficiency and attracting investment.

The addition of the new directors reflects a continued effort to strengthen the company’s leadership by placing qualified professionals in critical operational roles.
