The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) is calling on global investors to seize opportunities in Nigeria’s vast energy sector, branding the country as Africa’s top oil and gas destination.

Group Chief Executive Officer Bayo Ojulari delivered the message at the Energy Talk session of the 2025 Gastech Exhibition and Conference in Milan, Italy.

Chief Corporate Communications Officer Andy Odeh noted that Ojulari highlighted government efforts to draw investment, accelerate industrialization, and strengthen Nigeria’s global energy role.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reforms, Ojulari explained, have created a more attractive investment climate, positioning Nigeria as the preferred destination for energy projects in Africa.

Plans include raising natural gas output to 12 billion cubic feet per day and expanding refinery capacity to meet growing demand.

NNPC is targeting at least $60 billion in new funding over the next five to seven years, describing the figure as just the start of Nigeria’s ambitions.

Although some investors have already backed gas-based industries, Ojulari stressed the need for more capital to build infrastructure.

Fresh investments are also vital to the Federal Government’s vision of powering transportation with Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).

Beyond gas, Nigeria’s oil assets remain largely untapped, with over 200 undeveloped fields that could help boost production beyond the current 1.7 million barrels per day.

Ongoing efforts include major investments in carbon capture, energy efficiency, and flaring reduction, alongside progress on flagship projects such as the Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano (AKK) pipeline and NLNG Train 7.

NNPC’s wider goal is to end energy poverty by scaling up gas for industry and providing LPG as clean cooking fuel for millions of Africans still lacking access.

The Gastech conference gathered over 50,000 professionals and 1,000 exhibitors from 150 countries, cementing its place as a leading platform for shaping the future of global energy.
