The General Petroleum Company (GPC), Egypt’s state-owned hydrocarbon firm, has revealed a fresh oil find in the Abu Sannan basin of the Western Desert.

The newly drilled GPR-1X well is already yielding strong results, producing around 1,400 barrels of oil and 1 million cubic feet of gas daily.

GPC’s Chairman and CEO, Mohamed Abdel Meguid, confirmed that ongoing testing supports these output levels.

The well taps into the Bahariya Formation, known for its oil-rich reservoirs.

The preliminary logging data indicates the presence of hydrocarbons in the Abu Roash G and B layers, but further analysis is required before commercial progress.

This marks the second successful discovery in Abu Sannan within just three months—the last one was announced in March.

GPC credited its in-house artificial intelligence technologies for boosting exploration efficiency and enhancing yields from older fields.

Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum is driving a strategy focused on maximizing domestic output by making the most of existing reserves.

Abu Sannan remains a high-priority area due to its easy access to infrastructure and proximity to refining facilities.

With the latest discovery, Egypt adds an estimated 2 million barrels to its recoverable reserves.

These continued finds highlight the Western Desert’s ongoing value, even as its fields age.

They also spark interest among energy experts tracking Egypt’s progress in modernizing extraction technologies.

Overall, these developments help Egypt strengthen its oil production while advancing toward long-term energy goals.
