ReconAfrica has advanced preparations for Prospect I and will now begin drilling earlier, moving the spud date to Q2 2025.

The company’s local teams have started engaging with communities, conducting surveys, clearing vegetation, and removing landmines.

Next, they will build a 10-kilometer access road and prepare the drill pad site.

Prospect It is one of the largest mapped structures in the Damara Fold Belt and has been clearly defined through 2D seismic imaging.

The structure features a four-way dip closure, where ReconAfrica plans to drill over 1,500 meters into the Otavi reservoir.

Data from the Naingopo well, the company’s first in the Damara Fold Belt, has significantly lowered exploration risks.

That well confirmed the presence of a reservoir in the Otavi carbonates, along with hydrocarbon shows and oil at the surface.

ReconAfrica is eager to drill this next exploration well as part of its efforts to unlock the Damara Fold Belt’s hydrocarbon potential.

The company is targeting 365 million barrels of unrisked and 32 million barrels of risked prospective light/medium oil resources.

It is also aiming for 1.7 trillion cubic feet of unrisked and 126 billion cubic feet of risked prospective natural gas resources.

These estimates, based on a 100% working interest, come from the latest prospective resources report by Netherland, Sewell & Associates, Inc. (NSAI).

NSAI identifies Prospect I as location 63 in its report.
