Chevron has expanded its footprint in Namibia’s offshore sector by securing an 80% participating interest and operatorship in PEL 82, while Custos Energy and NAMCOR each retain a 10% stake.

Offshore Namibia’s Walvis Basin, known as an “oil kitchen,” holds strong oil exploration potential, attracting companies like Chevron to acquire licenses and drill wells.

Rich in proven oil source rock, the basin offers a promising environment for commercial hydrocarbon discoveries.

The Barremian-Aptian source rock, responsible for oil generation, plays a crucial role in the basin’s geology.

PEL 82, covering blocks 2112B and 2212A, stands out as a prime offshore prospect, with 70% of the area mapped by extensive seismic surveys.

The region has over 3,500 km of 2D and 9,500 km² of 3D seismic data, enhancing its exploration potential.

Previous wells, Murombe-1 and Wingat-1, provided essential geological insights into the basin.

Chevron’s expansion into PEL 82 aligns with its strategy to explore high-potential regions.

This strengthens its presence in Namibia, complementing its existing operations in PEL 90 in the Orange Basin.

By increasing its exploration acreage, Chevron reinforces Namibia’s position as a key frontier for oil and gas development.
