Italian oil company Eni announced that it will initiate onshore exploratory drilling in Libya’s Ghadames Basin next month and plans to kick off an offshore drilling campaign in the Sirte Basin by late 2025.
Speaking at the Libyan-Italian roundtable in Rome, Martina Obizzi, President of the North Africa and Levant region at Eni, emphasised the importance of exploration activities in the energy sector. “Exploration is a key pillar of the energy sector,” Obizzi said, according to Energy Capital & Power. “We have maintained our focus on Libya from an exploration standpoint and are eager to resume these activities as soon as possible,” she added, highlighting that Libya holds over a billion undiscovered resources.
Eni is collaborating with British Petroleum and the Libyan Investment Authority to operate offshore exploration in Areas A and B of the Ghadames Basin.
The Libyan-Italian roundtable will discuss the involvement of Italian companies in advancing Libya’s oil and natural gas sector, along with preparations for the upcoming third edition of the Libya Energy and Economy Summit, set to take place next year in Tripoli.
