ExxonMobil and partners have produced 2.5 billion barrels of oil in Angola’s deepwater Block 15 since the first production from the FPSO Xikomba. twenty years ago
According to ANPG, Angola’s oil and gas regulatory agency, the partners put five FPSOs on the asset in the first six years of production, establishing the quickest execution time in West Africa and one of the fastest in industry history.
The FPSO Xikomba was built in 2003, followed by the “Design One, Build Several” strategy for the FPSOs Kizomba A in 2004, Kizomba B in 2005, and 2 (two) on Kizomba C (Mondo and Saxi-Batuque) in 2008.
The success, according to ANPG, “demonstrates that Angola maintains a good potential for oil and gas production, so the National Concessionaire, together with its partners, will do everything to ensure that the sector continues to be profitable and contributes to the development of the nation.”
With 18 commercial finds, Block 15 is one of the most prosperous offshore concessions in West Africa and is situated about 145 kilometers west of the coast of Zaire Province.
According to ANPG, the present emphasis is on maximizing the recovery of the remaining resources by improving production, utilizing new technology, and lowering emissions. This is because Block 15’s fields are becoming more mature.
