Afentra plc has revised its offshore Angola drilling schedule, moving the Borr Grid rig directly to the Impala-2 development well in Block 3/05 before drilling the previously planned Pacassa SW sidetrack. The company expects both wells to begin production in the first quarter of 2027.

Afentra plans to spud Impala-2 in mid-October, with drilling and completion expected to take around 80 days. The company targets first oil in January 2027, with initial gross production estimated at 4,000 barrels per day.

The company has used reservoir data from a successful intervention at Impala-1 to guide the Impala-2 well design. The intervention restored production at Impala-1 and provided information to support the new drilling plan. Joint venture partners will fund Impala-2 directly while maintaining a reduced gross well cost cap of $60 million.

After completing Impala-2, the Borr Grid rig will return to Pacassa SW to drill and complete a sidetrack. Although the original discovery well encountered 136 meters of net oil pay, operational challenges restricted access to the wellbore, making a sidetrack necessary. Afentra expects first oil in the first quarter of 2027 through the existing Pacassa production infrastructure.

Afentra is also reassessing the Pacassa SW discovery using the latest well data to evaluate its resource potential. Previous estimates put the potential at up to approximately 70 million barrels. The company will publish revised oil-in-place and resource estimates after completing the assessment.

Afentra Chief Executive Paul McDade said the decision to prioritize Impala-2 would give the company greater operational flexibility, improve the Block 3/05 drilling program, and maintain progress across its operations.
