BW Energy has confirmed commercial oil volumes in two appraisal wells at the Dussafu field offshore Gabon. The wells contain an estimated 8 million to 9 million barrels of gross recoverable oil, supporting plans to drill two additional production wells.

The company said the results from the 10P2 and 10P1 appraisal wells would expand its drilling program. BW Energy plans to drill the first additional production well during the ongoing MaBoMo Phase 2 campaign.

The 10P2 appraisal well encountered a 30-meter oil column in the Gamba reservoir. Formation tests confirmed good porosity and permeability, indicating favorable conditions for production.

Wireline logging and pressure tests suggest that a production well at the 10P2 location could initially produce more than 5,000 barrels of oil per day (bopd) gross, matching the output of recent MaBoMo Phase 1 wells.

BW Energy estimates that the 10P2 location could yield approximately 6 million barrels of gross recoverable oil. The planned production well could also recover its investment in less than one year.

The 10P1 appraisal well encountered a 16-meter oil column in a separate accumulation. Formation tests confirmed good reservoir quality and the presence of movable oil.

These results support plans to drill another production well at the 10P1 location. However, BW Energy will determine the drilling schedule alongside other activities at Dussafu, including the Bourdon Phase 1 development.

BW Energy Chief Executive Officer Carl K. Arnet said the two successful appraisal wells strengthened the company’s results at Dussafu, bringing its record to 13 successful exploration and appraisal wells out of 14. He added that drilling the appraisal wells ahead of the production wells had confirmed additional oil volumes and allowed the company to add at least one high-value well with a short payback period to its current program.

The drilling rig is now moving to the MaBoMo facility, where BW Energy will first replace the electrical submersible pump in an existing Hibiscus production well.

The company will then drill four MaBoMo Phase 2 production wells before drilling a fifth well targeting the newly appraised 10P2 accumulation.

BW Energy expects each well to initially produce approximately 5,000 bopd gross. As the wells come online in stages, the MaBoMo Phase 2 development could add up to 20,000 bopd gross at peak production.

The company maintains its target to achieve first oil from the campaign in the first quarter of 2027.

After completing the MaBoMo drilling program, BW Energy plans to drill another infill well at the Tortue field before starting the Bourdon Phase 1 development, which targets first oil in the first quarter of 2028.

The company also plans further appraisal drilling at Walt Whitman and in the Bourdon area in 2028. Future development activities will depend on the results of these wells.

These planned projects support BW Energy’s long-term target of producing between 30,000 and 45,000 bopd gross from the Dussafu license.

BW Energy operates the Dussafu license with a 73.5% working interest. Panoro Energy holds 17.5%, while Gabon Oil Company holds the remaining 9%.
