The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) awarded PPL 2008 to Tulcan Energy through Nigeria’s 2024 Licensing Round. The license was one of 19 petroleum prospecting licenses awarded to 12 companies as Nigeria works to attract investment and increase upstream activity.

Tulcan will begin technical, operational, and regulatory work on the license. This will include detailed subsurface studies and the review and validation of historical seismic and well data. The company will also finalize its exploration work program and carry out additional geoscience studies where needed.

Tulcan also plans to explore partnerships with technical and financial firms that can provide additional expertise, technology, and funding as exploration progresses.

“PPL 2008 represents an important milestone for Tulcan as we expand into Nigeria’s deep offshore,” said Tayo Adeyemi Adiatu, Group CEO of Tulcan Energy. “We have been deliberate in pursuing assets with strong long-term potential, and this award reflects the progress we are making in building a high-quality and diversified upstream business.”

Tulcan currently operates and holds interests in the Tom Shot Bank (PPL 244) and Odimodi (PPL 227) fields. The addition of PPL 2008 expands the company’s exploration portfolio in Nigeria.

Any future development of PPL 2008 will depend on the results of exploration and appraisal activities.
