Petrobras has submitted an expression of interest to explore oil blocks in Ghana and has started negotiations.
Ghana’s Ministry of Energy and Green Transition approved Petrobras’ application to negotiate exploration contracts for four offshore blocks in the Keta Basin. Petrobras’ head of exploration and production, Sylvia Anjos, told Reuters that the blocks share geological similarities with Brazil’s Equatorial Margin, which Petrobras considers one of its most promising oil frontiers.
Beyond Ghana, Petrobras is also exploring opportunities in several African countries, including São Tomé and Príncipe, Namibia, Côte d’Ivoire, and South Africa.
The move supports Petrobras’ strategy to replenish its oil and gas reserves through exploration in new frontier areas in Brazil and overseas. The company said it is also assessing opportunities to diversify its exploration portfolio and support long-term growth.
