Uganda has moved the 24-MWp Ituka solar project in West Nile closer to commercial operation after energizing its substation.
The project’s 25 MVA, 132/33 kV substation now allows the solar farm to supply initial power to Uganda’s national grid.
Once operational, Ituka will become the first utility-scale grid-connected solar facility in Uganda’s West Nile Region and the country’s largest in the region.
Uganda broke ground on the 52-hectare solar project in Ombachi in August 2024. At the time, developers estimated the project’s investment at $19 million.
