The African Petroleum Producers’ Organization has announced plans to hold a meeting in Egypt to tackle key energy development challenges across the continent.

Karim Badawi said Egypt will host a high-level ministerial meeting for APPO member states in Alamein this June.

Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources said the meeting will take place alongside the African Union mid-year coordination summit and will focus on creating a common platform for infrastructure financing and energy security coordination across Africa.

Badawi shared this during talks with Farid Ghazali and other senior African oil and gas officials.

The officials also reviewed progress on the launch of the African Energy Bank, an initiative developed by APPO and the African Export-Import Bank to support financing for Africa’s oil, gas, and wider energy sectors.

APPO also announced plans to launch a new African training platform by the end of 2026 to strengthen regional capacity development.

Ghazali praised Egypt’s infrastructure and said the organization plans to use Egyptian technical centers to support the initiative across the continent.

Badawi said Egypt has several national companies with expertise in oil and gas infrastructure projects, including Engineering for the Petroleum and Process Industries, Petroleum Projects and Technical Consultations Company, Egyptian Projects Operation and Maintenance, Egyptian Maintenance Company, Egyptian Drilling Company, and Modern Drilling Company.

He added that these companies have delivered major projects in Egypt and other countries, showing their ability to support energy and infrastructure development across Africa while helping transfer technical expertise.

The discussions highlighted a stronger regional focus on self-reliance and the need to secure funding that can help turn Africa’s mineral resources into a reliable domestic energy supply.

The collaboration also supports the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources’ strategy to strengthen Egypt’s position as a technical and logistics hub for energy markets in Africa and the Mediterranean region.

Founded in 1987 in Lagos, the African Petroleum Producers Organization brings together 18 African oil-producing countries, including Egypt, and operates from its headquarters in Brazzaville.
