The Government of Mozambique has restarted the tender for a 30 MW solar PV project in the Dondo district, Sofala Province, as it continues to expand renewable energy capacity. The Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy is leading the process in coordination with the Energy Regulatory Authority.

The tender includes a request for pre-qualification to identify an independent power producer that will develop, finance, build, and operate the project.

The project sits under the Renewable Energy Auctions Promotion Program, which Mozambique launched in 2020 to increase generation capacity, diversify its energy mix, and bring in private sector investment through competitive bidding. The European Union supports the program, with implementation assistance from Agence Française de Développement, and it targets about 120 MW of solar and wind capacity.

Developers must submit their expressions of interest by June 22, 2026, and authorities expect to move to the request for proposals stage later in the year. The relaunch shows that Mozambique is still working to move clean energy projects forward and strengthen its power sector.
