Egypt has moved into a new stage of offshore gas exploration following the arrival of the Valaris DS-12 in its territorial waters. The drillship’s deployment marks the beginning of a drilling program focused on four new wells in Egypt.
The drillship will start operations by drilling one production well and one exploratory well for BP. After that, it will drill two additional exploratory wells for Arcius Energy, a joint venture between BP and ADNOC.
Major international energy companies are showing renewed interest in Egypt’s energy sector, reflecting stronger confidence in the country’s investment environment. The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has supported this momentum through reforms and incentives designed to speed up exploration, development, and production activities.
Under its wider strategy for 2026, the ministry and its partners plan to drill more than 100 exploratory wells alongside several development wells across existing fields.
Through this initiative, Egypt aims to make better use of its oil and gas resources and encourage new discoveries that can raise production levels. Expanded exploration is expected to support steady growth in domestic output and help drive meaningful change in Egypt’s energy sector over the next five years.
