Eni has confirmed a major oil discovery at the Algaita-01 exploration well in Block 15/06, offshore Angola, about 18 km from the Olombendo FPSO. Early estimates suggest the well contains around 500 million barrels of oil in place.

The Algaita-01 well, which started drilling on 10 January 2026, was drilled by the Saipem 12000 drill ship in water 667 meters deep. It found oil-bearing sandstones in several Upper Miocene layers, showing strong reservoir properties. Fluid sampling and other data confirmed the quality of the reservoir and the characteristics of the oil.

Existing production facilities nearby increase the value of the discovery and make its development easier.

Block 15/06 is operated by Azule Energy (36.84%), alongside partners SSI (26.32%) and Sonangol E&P (36.84%). Azule Energy, jointly owned by Eni and bp, strengthens its upstream portfolio in Angola with this discovery.
