An agreement has been reached between TotalEnergies, ANPG, and Sonangol Pesquisa e Produção to develop deep-water oil fields in the Kwanza basin, located off the coast of Angola.
The heads of agreement were signed by TotalEnergies EP Angola, and if approved, will pave the way for the final investment decision this year.
The agreement covers the development of the Cameia and Golfinho fields located on Blocks 20 and 21, situated approximately 150 kilometers southwest of Luanda.
The project will include a subsea network-connected floating production storage and offloading vessel, the seventh for TotalEnergies in Angola.
With the new design, which includes a zero flaring concept and electrical generation using a combined cycle turbine, the project is expected to have a lower carbon intensity.
As the operator, TotalEnergies EP Angola controls an 80% stake in both blocks, and the remaining stake is held by Sonangol Pesquisa e Produção.
Paulo Jerónimo, Chairman of the Board at ANPG, stated: “This agreement should permit the first production in the Kwanza marine zone and may significantly contribute to the national production objectives. Due to its potential, additional operators may get interested, which might lead to the start of additional initiatives in the Kwanza Basin.
It is predicted that the Cameia and Golfinho fields will begin producing oil in 2026 and reach their maximum output of roughly 68,978 bpd in 2029.
Nicolas Terraz, President of Exploration & Production at TotalEnergies, stated: “We are working to make this first offshore development project in the Kwanza basin possible with our partners. This will enable us to put the Cameia and Golfinho discoveries into production and increase the value of new national energy resources.
