According to the North African country’s state-run news agency on Tuesday, TuNur, a renewable energy developer based in the United Kingdom, plans to invest $1.5 billion in the construction of a 500-megawatt export-oriented solar power plant in Tunisia.
The announcement was made by Daniel Rich, CEO of the British company, during a meeting with Tunisia’s Minister of Economy and Planning Samir Saied in the capital Tunis on Tuesday.
Rich stated that the North African country has the natural resources, factors, and strategic geographical location to become one of the most important sites in North Africa for the production of electricity and the supply of Europe’s growing needs.
Tunisia is currently constructing a 10 MW solar plant in the governorate of Gabes for an estimated $800,000 in total investment.
